Linking Layouts 101

For your “jack” to be considered in the Scrapjack challenge and therefore be eligible for the monthly prize, you will need to leave a comment on here linking your layout. To make things easy on us when we are deciding on a winner, you will also need to email your layout as an attachment (small file size please) to aussiescrapjacked@hotmail.com

We don’t want to scare you off with a long list of instructions….we just want to make sure we have all bases covered and that you will know what to do. If you are still having problems, please don’t hesitate to ask via a comment (other people might be having the same troubles) or email your questions to us.

How do you leave a comment?

Click on the highlighted word “comments” below post showing the jack layout. If you do not have a Blogger account it will ask you to open one – just follow the instructions. When you leave a comment telling us how much fun creating your jack was, simply link your layout in the same comment.

How do you make a digital image of your layout?

The simplest way to do this is to place your layout on the floor near a source of plenty of natural light such as a door or window and make sure your camera’s flash is turned off. Stand over the top of your layout and make sure that it is “square” in your viewfinder. You can also crop your image using a photo-editing program such as Picasa (download free from Google). Alternatively could scan and stitch your layout.

How do you link your layout?

Option 1.
Upload your layout to an online gallery. (You will find online galleries on the sites of our sponsors – go to one of them for some hassle free help). Basically you need to open your layout in the gallery of your chosen site so that it is the only one being viewed. Right click your mouse on the image and select “copy image location”. This will save the address of the link on your clipboard so that it can be pasted into your comment. Here’s an example of how it might look: http://www.onestopscrapping.com.au/cpg132/
albums/userpics/ 10690/ normal _DSC09649.JPG (You will need to copy and paste this link for it to work. All the way up to the .JPG part) :)
Another alternative is to right click on the image and select “open link in a new window”. This will open another window showing your layout. Go up to the browser (address bar) and copy the address (this is the “link”) into your comment.
Here’s an example of how this might look:
http://www.bluebazaar.com.au/index1.php?f=http%3A//www.bluebazaar.com.au/bb/album_showpage.php%3Ffull%3D%26pic_id%3D14289

Both of these options should work but some galleries work a little differently from others so you may need to experiment a little first (try pasting your link into a word doc to see if it works).

Option 2.
Upload your layout to your blog. When it is posted on your blog, click on the title of that post so that it opens up that post only. It will have a code that looks something like this in the address bar –
http://scrap-petrina-just-scrap.blogspot.com/2007/03/scrapjack-2-effort.html .
Go up to the browser (address bar) and copy the address (this is the link) into your comment.

How do YOU scrapjack?????

Well, we thought it might be time for a bit of an explaination as to how you will all go about entering this wonderful challenge every month.

As you know, we here at Aussie Scrapjack will be nominating an Aussie scrapper for you to jack each month. On the first day of the month, we will reveal who the jackee is, display their work and a little about them. Each of us here at Aussie Scrapjack will then scraplift the jack, just to give you some inspiration.

It is then up to you to either 1) scraplift the displayed layout, or 2) go off to the jackee's online gallery or blog and find a layout by this person that you love and lift it.

There will be a winner announced at the end of the month. We will be choosing the winner from many criteria, including, the best scraplift that also includes the individual flair of the artist who has completed it. So you do not have to do a direct lift of the jack's work, you are free to interpret YOUR way, as long as the original principals of the jackee's LO are retained. Get it?

There will also be other mini winners through the month, suprise winners. It could be for completing a challenge, or simply for leaving a comment :)

Once you have completed your scrapjack LO, you then need to leave us a comment here at the blog. That comment needs to include a link to where your LO is displayed, be it on your blog or in an online gallery. You will also need to include a link to the LO that you have lifted (if it is a different one from the one here on the blog ). That is so we can see them. We will also need you to email a copy to our email address, just so we have a copy if there are problems.

You will all be able to access the comments section and go see what everyone has created :)

Tomorrow we will be posting a tutorial Petrina has done to help you all with linking. Some of us are experts, some of us have no idea.....me included LOL, so that will be a great thing for everyone to learn :)

So stay tuned for that tomorrow.

We can also reveal that the lovely Maria from Scrapboxx has sponsored this first jack. The prize is a beauty and will be revealed on Sunday with the announcement of out first jack!

If you have any questions about how this is all going to work, please post a comment asking your question and we will answer them asap. Its all pretty easy though, and going to be heaps of FUN!

Only 2 sleeps until the first jack is announced!

More Scrapjacked news

We have our first jackee all lined up ladies, and I can assure you, she is a very talented Aussie scrapper who is very worthy of a scraplift :) And we cant wait to see what you do.

So does everyone understand the concept?

What will be happening is that we will nominate a scrapjackee, you girls then go off and find a layout by the scrapjackee that you love. It may be on their blog, in an online gallery. You then scraplift their LO, and you add your own twist, keeping to the design of the original as much as possible. You then email a pic of your creation to us, with a link to the original.

Prizes will be awarded, stay tuned for the criteria, we are in the process of determining that now :)

There will be other prizes throughout the month too, it may even be for just leaving a comment.

We already have some sponsors lined up, thanks to these wonderful online stores for getting behind us! And there are more wonderful store owners who would like to be involved. And if you are a store owner and would like to be a sponsor, please contact us, either by leaving a comment or emailing.

So stay in touch ladies, the first scrapjack will be launched on Sunday April the 1st. You are going to be so pleased to find out who our first scrapjack is.......believe me, she's AWESOME!
